I just read this article on Oxfam International: https://www.oxfam.org/en/pressroom/pressreleases/2017-01-16/just-8-men-own-same-wealth-half-world This is how I feel about it: This is absolutely obscene. This article demonstrates how the big corporations and super rich are behind this big gap between the rich and the poor around the world. They aren't paying their fair share of taxes, they are driving wages down, and using their money to influence politics to their advantage. I think our recent election of Donald Trump shows how money and billionaire influence is having a detrimental effect on our democracy itself. He has one of the lowest approval ratings of any incoming president in many years. The people he has chosen to be in his cabinet have a combined wealth of over 11 billion. Now who do you think they are going to serve? 370 cities across the world are protesting Trump's inauguration. 42 members of Congress are boycotting the inauguration. There are protests all around the U.S. as well there should be. The corporate media gave Trump over 3 billion in free advertising. He is making them millions. What did the average American get by electing Trump? I think you will soon find out, and I don't think the answer will be pretty for any of us. |
